Dear Team Alpha Students and Parents,
Welcome to Team Alpha! We are all excited about teaching a wonderful group of students this year. As we begin our year together, we want to give a brief explanation of our team name:
ALPHA is an acronym for Academics, Leadership, Perservance, Honor and Ambition. We hope you all aspire to show each of these traits throughout the year. Here are some items that will help you have a successful school year:
Family Information Sheet
Each family needs to fill out and return the Family Information Sheet. It is the last page of this letter and has two sides. This will help teachers to communicate with students and their parents/guardians. Send the Family Information Sheet back to Mrs. Shipp by Friday, September 6, 2013.
Open House
Please plan on attending McDougle’s Open House on Monday, September 16, 2013. We welcome you to meet your student’s new teachers and learn more about Team Alpha.
Communication
Keeping up with student progress is a responsibility that the teachers share with students and parents. Please note the many ways that you can receive information about your student’s progress throughout the school year.

Powerschool Accounts
- All grades are available through student/parent Powerschool accounts (https://chccs.powerschool.com/public/). This is the best way to track a student’s progress in each of our classes. Through this program, students and parents can be informed of a student’s class status by looking at both the grades and assignment completion. Each assignment will be posted when all student work has been graded so we ask that you remain patient and give us time to post results. A call or email is not necessary to expedite the process because it is in our best interest, as well, to get them entered as quickly as possible. Thanks for your patience.
Progress Reports/Report Cards
We also contact ALL students and parents of class progress or status at the following times:
- Progress Reports – All students will receive an individual progress report that includes an update on their class progress.
- Report Cards – All students will receive an individual report card that includes class grades for the quarter.
- McDougle Middle School grades based on a 7-point scale.
- If you have any questions or concerns with progress reports or report cards, please contact the teachers. Teachers will also communicate individual concerns or accomplishments at other times during the year based on their discretion.

Team Alpha Website
- Check out the Team Alpha website. The website will be updated regularly and will be another tool of communication. The site can be accessed through the McDougle home page, under core teams.
- Homework assignments will be posted daily for all core classes under the “Homework Calendar.” (NOTE: there may be a day here and there that the homework assignments do not get posted. To prevent any errors, students should write homework in their planners daily.)
Parent Conferences
- Parent conferences are a time to celebrate student achievement and plan strategies to work toward success. All core teachers are present at conferences, and students are included in conferences unless otherwise requested. Please contact Danae Shipp at [email protected] or call 933-1556 ext. 78274 in order to schedule a conference.
- Because of all the team members’ schedules, we are only able to meet as a whole team on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:15 to 10:45 am.
